Hastelloy flanges consist mainly of nickel, molybdenum, and chromium with incremental additions of iron, tungsten, and cobalt for improvement in corrosion resistance and strength. The alloy possesses outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking under harsh conditions. Mechanical characteristics include high tensile strength, typically 55-85 ksi, and good high-temperature resistance (up to 1600°F or 870°C). The flanges have good ductility and formability, which make them suitable for demanding uses in chemical processing, aerospace, and power generation where corrosion resistance is important.
